Welcome to our mountain village Chikahagi.

I am Miki from Kuu House in Chikahagi!

Our mom Yuko who loves antiques and the good old days, and has been renovating this 150 year old minka (Japanese house) for the last 30 years. My husband, Keita, and I joined her, and this house was reborn as “Country Stay Kuuhouse "

The three of us will look after you like a part of our family; it’s Japanese hospitality - “omotenashi.” We hope to make Kuu House where you want to keep coming back, like your home!

Meal

Breakfast

Japanese or western(sometimes) style breakfast. Yuko cooks local vegetables she and her friends grew. Enjoy your breakfast on the terrace with the sound of bird songs when it's sunny.

Dinner

Dinner is served around “irori”, Japanese hearth, we grill meat and fish on the charcoal. Yuko’s home cooked dishes are made with seasonal organic vegetables, served on Japanese antique plates she has collected. We also serve vegetarian, vegan, or game meats (local wild venison and boar meat). Please let us know if you have any specific dietary restrictions.

We’re excited to share that we’re certified by Vege Project, meaning you can enjoy our meals with the confidence that they meet vegan standards!

We also understand that everyone has different dietary needs, so whether you’re looking for allergy-friendly options, a low-carb meal, or something gluten-free, we’re more than happy to help accommodate your requests as best as we can.

We make all of our own traditional Japanese fermented foods, like soy sauce and miso, from scratch. We’re also learning more about fermentation and make most of our condiments by hand. There are lots of special experiences that you can only have in a countryside where tourists rarely visit, like making homemade side dishes with grandma or crafting udon with our neighbor. It’s the kind of authentic experience you can’t find anywhere else!

Guest Room

LANMA

Mr. & Mrs. Kurihara (Creative Wood Factory K)

did interior design in the main living room. They designed wall papers, light fixtures, as well as art in these rooms. It feels very open and exotic.

WASHI

Washi (Japanese hand made paper) is used as wall paper in this room. There are two twin beds.You can also push the twin beds together to make one big bed.

TATAMI

Medium size bedroom is Japanese style, you will sleep on futon (Japanese bedding) on tatami mats -it’s very popular among foreign guests.

HANARE

Photogenic traditional room which is separate from the main house across the garden. This room has its own toilet and can be use as a guest bedroom or lounge.

Each room is divided by sliding doors.To book yourself. Additional beds can be prepared for LANMA and WASHI rooms. (air mattresses)

This is a very small accommodation facility, (run inn by a family) so we accept reservations without overlapping check-out and check-in dates.For the reservation,please choose from the blank days on the calender.

Cancellation policy

We kindly ask for your understanding regarding our cancellation policy.

As our guesthouse is a private, full-house rental and often reserved months in advance, last-minute cancellations can make it difficult to rebook. We truly hope to avoid cancellation fees, but in order to continue offering our home to future guests, the following policy applies after your reservation is confirmed:

Cancellation Fees:
• 50% of the total stay cost (including meals and experiences) for cancellations made 14 to 8 days before check-in
• 100% of the total stay cost for cancellations made 7 days or less before check-in, or in case of no-show

Date Changes:
You may change your reservation once for free if requested at least 8 days before your original check-in date (within a 3-month window).

Changes in Group Size:
If the number of guests decreases within 14 days before check-in, a cancellation fee will be charged for the cancelled guests.

Important Notes:
As our guesthouse is exclusively reserved for your group, we consider all last-minute cancellations—regardless of personal reasons (such as illness, weddings, or funerals)—as cancellations due to guest circumstances, and the above fees will apply.

Exceptions:
In case of emergencies such as natural disasters (e.g. typhoons or earthquakes), if travel becomes unsafe or impossible due to evacuation orders or transportation shutdowns, cancellation fees will not apply. Your safety is always our top priority.

In Case of Malicious Cancellations:
If we do not receive any communication and you do not arrive, and it is clear that you intentionally avoided contact, we may consider the case as malicious and report it to booking platforms or relevant parties.
