KuuHouse
Welcome home !
Welcome home.
Deep in the satoyama landscapes of rural Japan, Kuuhouse is a family-run stay set in a farmhouse dating back to the Edo period.
Together with Miki, Keita, our mother Yuko, and the local people you may naturally meet during your stay, we share simple moments of countryside life — homemade food, seasonal traditions, quiet mountain mornings, laughter around the irori hearth,
and the kind of warmth that may feel strangely familiar.
Somewhere during your stay, you may discover that a piece of Japan had quietly been living in your heart all along.
Meal
Breakfast
Breakfast at KuuHouse is simple, homemade, and made with lots of local ingredients.
Miki cooks with seasonal vegetables grown by family, friends, and neighbors in the village, along with homemade fermented foods and traditional Japanese seasonings.
For guests staying multiple nights, the breakfast menu changes daily, offering a variety of Japanese and occasional Western-style dishes depending on the season and ingredients available.
On sunny mornings, you can enjoy breakfast outside on the terrace with mountain air and birds singing around you.
We hope that KuuHouse gives you a little taste of everyday life in rural Japan.
Dinner
Dinner at KuuHouse is usually shared around the irori, a traditional Japanese hearth dating back to the Edo period.
Guests cook and grill their own food over charcoal, enjoying a slow and interactive dining experience around the fire.
The meal includes fresh local vegetables, mountain plants, free-range chicken, and occasionally wild game (jibie), along with homemade side dishes prepared by Yuko.
For guests staying multiple nights, wagyu beef is sometimes served as a special part of the irori dinner experience, and is often one of the most memorable moments of the stay.
Meals are served on beautiful old Japanese plates collected over many years by Yuko, adding a quiet warmth to the table.
It’s not fine dining — but a deeply local, hands-on way of eating, filled with conversation, firelight, and time that slowly unfolds in the mountains.
Please let us know if you have any dietary needs when making your reservation.
Vegan
Vegan / Vegetarian Friendly
Don’t worry if you’re vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten-free, or have allergies — we’ll do our best to prepare meals you can truly enjoy!
KuuHouse is certified by Vege Project Japan, and we love cooking with delicious local vegetables, beans, mountain plants, and homemade ingredients from our village.
There are so many amazing flavors in the countryside here, and we’d love to share them with you.
Please let us know about any dietary needs when making your reservation.
We make many traditional Japanese fermented foods from scratch, including soy sauce, miso, and other homemade seasonings.
Fermentation is an important part of life at KuuHouse, and we’re always learning more and making things by hand.
Because Chikahagi is a quiet countryside village rarely visited by tourists, there are many special experiences you can only have here — like cooking homemade side dishes with grandma or making udon noodles with our neighbors.
These are simple, real moments of rural Japanese life that you won’t easily find anywhere else.
At KuuHouse, we carefully prepare our futons with natural materials and sun-drying, offering a soft and gentle sleeping space. We hope you can unwind from your journey, recover from jet lag or travel fatigue, and sleep peacefully, waking up feeling refreshed.

Cancellation policy
We kindly ask for your understanding regarding our cancellation policy.
As our guesthouse is a private, full-house rental and often reserved months in advance, last-minute cancellations can make it difficult to rebook. We truly hope to avoid cancellation fees, but in order to continue offering our home to future guests, the following policy applies after your reservation is confirmed:
Cancellation Fees:
• 50% of the total stay cost (including meals and experiences) for cancellations made 14 to 8 days before check-in
• 100% of the total stay cost for cancellations made 7 days or less before check-in, or in case of no-show
Date Changes:
You may change your reservation once for free if requested at least 8 days before your original check-in date (within a 3-month window).
Changes in Group Size:
If the number of guests decreases within 14 days before check-in, a cancellation fee will be charged for the cancelled guests.
Important Notes:
As our guesthouse is exclusively reserved for your group, we consider all last-minute cancellations—regardless of personal reasons (such as illness, weddings, or funerals)—as cancellations due to guest circumstances, and the above fees will apply.
Exceptions:
In case of emergencies such as natural disasters (e.g. typhoons or earthquakes), if travel becomes unsafe or impossible due to evacuation orders or transportation shutdowns, cancellation fees will not apply. Your safety is always our top priority.
In Case of Malicious Cancellations:
If we do not receive any communication and you do not arrive, and it is clear that you intentionally avoided contact, we may consider the case as malicious and report it to booking platforms or relevant parties.
